Meet Your Hosts

Jerry Audet

Jerry is a full-time freelance writer, photographer, and editor. He is a lifelong fisherman, and general adventurer, with a passion for sharing his experiences. He writes on a variety of Northeast angling topics, across multiple disciplines- the philosophy and psychology of fishing and illustrative story pieces are his specialty. He also loves photography (at least as much as writing) and he strives to capture exceptional images to accompany his written pieces. The combination makes him particularly adept at telling impactful stories.

While Jerry is most well known for his obsession- ahem, his “dedication”- to surf fishing, Jerry is also a passionate back-country bass and trout fisherman. He’s also an accomplished trail runner and mountain biker, though those things have fallen the wayside as he’s become more “dedicated” to the surf (or hopelessly obsessed, if that’s how you choose to see it).

Jerry has been published in a wide variety of publications including Anglers Journal, Field and StreamThe Fisherman Magazine, On The Water, Salt Water Sportsman,  Surfcaster’s Journal and more. He’s had hundreds of photos published in these publications (including covers and feature spreads), as well as in books, and on professional websites and commercial blogs. Jerry also holds academic degrees in Biology (B.S.) and Physiology (Ph.D.) and has numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts published. He currently is a full-time freelancer, holds the title of Managing Editor of Surfcaster’s Journal Magazine, is a columnist for Fishing Tackle Retailer, and he is the host of In Deep Outdoors seminars.

Toby Lapinski

A lifelong angler, Toby has been fishing the surf for more than 40 years and takes pride in his old school ways and big-fish-hunter mentality. From jigging, to plugging, to chunking and more, he does what it takes – night in and night out – to consistently pull oversized striped bass from the surf, season after season. Toby can just as likely be found working the surf for huge striped bass as crawling the banks of a local blueline stream for wild brookies or 100 miles offshore hunting giant bluefin tuna. Recent years he has even become a full-fledged tautog junky, hunting them from shore, on his kayak and by boat.

A longtime member of the Rhode Island Mobile Sportfishermen, Toby is also a member of the American Sportfishing Association where he sits on several committees including the Government Affairs, Saltwater East, and Freshwater, and he was recently appointed to the Striped Bass Recreational Advisory Panel for the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.

Toby is the former editor of the New England Edition of The Fisherman Magazine where he wrote hundreds of articles on all things fishing: freshwater and salt, inshore and offshore, and from the surf, kayak and boat. His byline and photographs have appeared in a variety of publications including Surfcasters Journal, Anglers Journal, Field & Stream, The New Haven Register, On The Water, and more. He currently holds the title of Editor in Chief at Fishing Tackle Retailer – the Business Magazine of the Fishing and Marine Industry. He is also the editor of both the Fishing Tackle Retailer and The Fishing Wire websites.
