S2 E19 /// Intentional Surfcasting – Make Every Cast Count

In this episode, the guys talk about how they approach a given spot when surfcasting to maximize their chances for success through a tactic that they refer to as intentional casting. More than just casting to certain spots within a spot, each cast is made with intent and attention is paid to what does and does not produce so that it may be refined until success is found and then repeated as needed.

  1. Great episode, as always.
Two key takeaways for me are attention, ie, stop letting my mind drift after my cast lands and I’m retrieving (thank you Jerry), and intention, work a 3 dimensional grid methodically at each spot (thank you Toby).
It sounded like most of the discussion relates to spots you know already; in what ways, if any, do you alter your planning for brand new spots?

And if you don’t mind a general question- I know you both have well established productive spots; but, in any given week of the season, how much time might you spend searching for new spots? Is it like, 90% established, and 10% hunting new spots? Or does it vary too much to generalize?

    Many thanks,
    Michael Fass
