Good Gear

We get a lot—and I mean a lot—of gear recommendation questions. I get it. I’m always looking for ways to make my surfcasting more productive, more comfortable, and maybe even a little easier as well.

The two questions we hear more than any others? Rods and waders.

As it happens, we covered both topics in one of our first Gear We Use episodes.

Give S1:E33 a listen to hear what we were using at the time. The thing is, all the products we talked about in that episode – hooks, plastic swimmers, rods, and waders – are still staples in our surf kits today.

And if you’re wondering why there’s a photo of me holding a rainbow trout in a post about surf fishing, there’s a good reason. The Grundéns Boundary GORE-TEX Waders I talked about in that episode are still going strong. In fact, I was wearing that same pair this past weekend while taking a much-needed mental break from the surf to chase some more civilized quarry.
